Many Dharmarth Trust employees injured in police lathicharge
3/3/2021 11:12:01 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 3: Over 20 employees of Dharmarth Trust including women on Wednesday were injured when the police resorted to lathicharge to prevent their protest near the Civil Secretariat.
Carrying placards and shouting slogans against the J&K Government and Dharmarth Trust management, a large number of Dharmarth Trust employees, who are on protest for the last 93 days and chain hunger strike for the last 66 days demanding constitution of Board for all temples under Dharmarth Trust on the pattern of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, today held a strong protest blocking Parade-Shalamar road for an hour.
They alleged the J&K government remained a mute spectator toward their demands and Dharmarth Trust management adopted all measures to crush the voice of striking employees.
They said that President Dharmarth Trust Ajay Gandotra along with secretary Gopal, Joint Secretary Varinder Singh and Manmohan Singh and others today reached the protest venue and forcefully remove the vehicles of protesting Pandits and Pujaris from the premises of Shri Ranbireshwar Temple and threatened them to stop agitation.
"We already met civil administration officers and assured them that they are protesting peacefully in the striking venue and also to call off strike for three days due to Mahashivratri Festival as we belong to 'Sanatan' and its our foremost priority to perform Puja Archana in temples on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri," protesting employees said.
"We also met the SP city yesterday and apprised him that Dharmarth Trust management will take measures to crush our voice," they said adding that police instead of taking action against Dharmarth Trust management members, indulged in lathicharge on innocent Pujaris and Pandits.
They appealed to Lt Governor to personally take the matter and fulfill his assurance at the earliest.
Later, president, Narendra Modi Vikas Mission, J&K UT, Poonam Sharma visited the protest venue and assured her full support to the protesting employees. Poonam said she would project their issue in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon.
