| Tributes paid to Maharaji Hari Singh | | 113th birth anniversary | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 23: The 113 birth anniversary of Late Maharaja of J&K, Maharaja Hari Singh was celebrated by Sri Amar Kshatriya Rajput Sabha (AKRS) by performing a havan in memory of people from various pasts of the region along with prominent member AKRS took part in the function. Members of AKRS on the occasion highlighted the social reforms introduced by Late Maharaja for the welfare of people of the state, which include prohibition of child marriage, smoking among childrens, polygamy and infanticide among Rajputs and discrimination against women. Speakers on the occasion said, Maharaja respects all religions and also signed instrument of accession with India in October 1947. In another function the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) paid glowing tributes to Maharaja Hari Singh. Speaking at the occasion state NCP president Thakur Randhir Singh recalled the contribution of Maharaja Hari Singh in socio economic development and prosperity of the people of J&K. He said the historic contribution of the Maharaja is signing of instrument of accession in 1947 there by making J&K a integral part of India. It was under his tenure that a legislative assembly called Praja Sabha was constituted being the first in any of the princely states in India. Other senior NCP leaders who paid rich tributes were Ashok Jain, Sham Gorkha, Mohinder Singh Thakur, Sham Singh, Amar Singh, Gulab Chand, Baldev Singh, Kochar Singh and others. |
