| 1357 water schemes underway | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Sept 23 : A record of 1357 water supply schemes, involving a cost of Rs. 1153.28 crore, are currently under execution in the state. Of these 551 schemes, costing Rs.601 crore, have been taken up in Kashmir and 708 schemes, involving a cost of Rs.538.40 crore, are under execution in Jammu region. In addition, work on 98 such schemes, at a cost of Rs.13.88 is apace in Leh and Kargil districts. During last fiscal 818 habitations of the state were provided drinking water facilities under ARWSP. The PHE department has also provided drinking water facility to 8050 rural schools in the state during the same period. PHE department has also taken up the construction work of 260 filtration plants in respect of ongoing water supply schemes and 327 filtration plants have been revived for closed water supply schemes having nallahs as source. Work on two iron removal plants of Wathura and Shadipora water supply schemes are in progress in Kashmir division. |
