| Together they can do wonders | | | | Out of compulsion or realization of ground realities, Pakistan has been sending positive vibes to India on all contentious issues including Kashmir. Though the trouble is continuously brimming on Line of Control and the International Borders and the militants continue to sneak to disturb peace in Jammu and Kashmir but at the political level Pakistan is behaving with quite maturity. Trade across Line of Control is perhaps one such major initiative which cement tries between both countries and herald the region into an era of cooperation and stability. The promptness with which Pakistan has responded to India’s eagerness in cross-LoC trade is a welcome development. Pakistan President is in favour of giving a new shape to its country's relations with India. According to him there is need for ties with India to be creatively re-invented with bold commitments. The country seriously also wants launch of cross-LoC trade. Making his first official pronouncements in Parliament after he assumed office earlier this month, Zardari said Pakistan would continue to seek the resolution of all outstanding issues with India, including Kashmir, for peace and full normalisation of bilateral ties. Zardari very well knows why and how the bitterness came in ties between the two South-Asian neighbours. He also knows that there are lots of obstacles in meeting his goals. It may be noted that terrorism is the biggest obstacle in normalisation of relations between India and Pakistan. Democratic governance is still to be established there. Whereas India's views on Kashmir are clear. J&K is an integral part of India as also the Pak Occupied Kashmir. India has always been in favour of maintaining cordial relations with its neighbour but this is possible only when democratic governance takes deep roots there. At present the government does not have full control over the Army there. This is clear looking to the frequent opening of fire on Indian positions by the Pakistan army personnel. The Pak Army is also encouraging the terrorists to enter inside Kashmir. There is no one to rein in the ISI. Terrorist organisations like Taliban and Lashkar-e-Taiba are getting shelter on the Pak soil. The recent deadly blast at Marriott hotel is a proof of this. Simply speaking of tough measures against the terrorists in the Pakistan Parliament is not enough. For this the President also requires total control over the Talibans and the ISI. It is hoped the two countries discuss with all sincerity the ways to bring peace during the cross-LoC confidence building measures talks from time to time. An impending meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari in New Yark is also expected to bring more positive developments in the bilateral relations between two countries. |
