| Vohra inches closer to public | | Dial now for your Wednesday date | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 23: One person in Jammu and Kashmir expecting timely assembly elections, rather early polls, and keen to have the democratically elected government as soon as possible is perhaps none other than the Governor NN Vohra who has been made to walk over the thorny fields ever since he took over at the Raj Bhawan. Governor’s usually enjoy a luxurius, leisurely and peaceful life at the magnificent Raj Bhawans. But this was not the case for Vohra who inherited a bitter legacy from his predecessor and more worst from the PDP-Congress coalition government. Taking over the reigns of Jammu and Kashmir at a time when state was in flames, Vohra had been keenly waiting the elections to happen sooner. It was the deepening of turmoil and slipping election schedule that motivated the Governor to have Advisors. Early in middle of July Vohra had indicated that he would make do without Advisors as just few weeks were seen left for the elections. With no election dates yet, the Governor is now inching closer to the public to give them a feel of the government which is for people. In a fresh initiative the Governor has marked all Wednesdays as his public hearing days in the Civil Secretariat office. According to a Raj Bhavan Spokesperson, the Governor, who has been meeting individuals and deputations at the Raj Bhavan, feels that visits to the Raj Bhavan may not be always convenient for those who seek to meet him. He has accordingly directed that his hearings shall be held in the Civil Secretariat. In the next month, the Governor shall hold public hearings in the Civil Secretariat on October 1, 15 and 22, 2008 (all Wednesdays) between 1000 hours to 1230 hours. In the event of any change in the public hearings, due to unforeseen pressing official engagements of the Governor, the next date of hearing would be notified in advance to avoid inconvenience to the people. The Spokesperson has requested the people, desirous of meeting the Governor during public hearings, to register their requests in advance with Mr Zaffar Ahmed, Special Secretary in the Governor's Secretariat (Telephone Nos: 0194-2479889) The Governor has already been interacting with the people of far-flung and remote areas during his tours across the State. On such tours, Mr Vohra invariably provides time to hear the grievances of the people, in addition to his other pre-fixed engagements, the Spokesman said this afternoon. |
