| Kailash Kund pilgrimage concludes peacefully | | |
Bhaderwah, Sep 11 The Kailash Kund pilgrimage concluded peacefully here with Muslims guarding their Hindu brethren in this part of strife-torn Jammu and Kashmir.
The pilgrimage was being held amid fear for the last 17 years.
However, this time the 22-km-long yatra was marked by the absence of any such apprehensions as the village defence committee (VDC) personnel patrolled the routes alongwith the devotees to prevent any untoward incident.
Javed Mohammad, a VDC member said,''This year people joined us in large numbers as they realised that the pilgrimage is our collective heritage and every effort should be made to protect the devotees.'' ''Bhaderwah area of Doda district is where one can find Islamic, Sufism and Hindu traditions merging in almost all aspects of life.
Both religions have existed here in a harmonious way for centuries,'' says Abdul Zargar, a local social activist.
The three-day pilgrimage is an annual event. Kailash Kund is situated at a height of 14,000 feet above sea level.
