| Compensate Poonch sufferers: Sadhotra | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 25: NC team led by Ajay Sadhotra, Provincial President J&K National Conference, Jammu Province, on the directions of party high command visited Poonch to assess the situation after August 23 communal tension in which about 56 shops belonging to different communities were burnt down. Immediately after their return Sadhotra while addressing a Press Conference here today at party headquarters said ‘it is unfortunate that this episode has happened in Poonch and it needs to be strongly condemned by all the secular people of the society’. The team expressed hope and saw a silver lining that all the communities have a feeling that these shops should have not been burnt; he said adding that people of different communities are committed to create an atmosphere of peace in this border district. He said all the communities were of the view that no innocent person should be arrested or harassed and moreover, innocent employees should not be harassed. They said by harassing innocent persons and employees will not lead to creating a secular atmosphere. The team inspected the burnt shops and said that compensation being given for these burnt shops was inadequate and government should give adequate compensation besides soft interest loans so that they could stand on their feet. It was also emphasized to instill confidence among the common masses by the government and in this regard National Conference, he said, has directed all its local units to act as ‘Peace Committees’ to strengthen the secular fabric in the border district. |
