| Azad’s absence conspicuous as PCC meets | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 25: Former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad was conspicuous as the executive committee and office bearers of the Pradesh Congress Committee met here today under the chairmanship of PCC chief Saif-ud-Soz to discuss the prevailing political scene and party’s preparedness for elections. Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and party’s incharge for Jammu and Kashmir Affairs Prithvi Raj Chavan was the chief guest in the meeting –the first of this level after fall of Congress government on July 7. The crucial meeting convened to discuss party’s position for elections was going on till late in the evening. While winding up first session of prolonged deliberations, Soz expressed his happiness that all the invited leaders had responded to his call at short notice and shown their solidarity with him and the party programmes. He congratulated the leaders for their resolve to work tirelessly and enthusiastically for the success of the party at the hustings. The PCC chief urged the partymen to re-dedicate themselves to the service of the people and the party, keeping in mind the fact that they have to be in the vanguard for sustaining the secular and the pluralistic values in public life. He further told them that the congress party happened to be the political force that alone can ensure the integrity of the state and a balanced and equitable social and economic development of all the three regions of the state. The General Secretary Sh. Prithvi Raj Chavan made an appeal to the leaders of the party to take a lead in the political space available an ensure a spectacular success for the party in the ensuing elections. Chavan assured the PCC leaders that all their suggestions would receive proper consideration and he was confident that the congress party would further improve its position substantially in the elections and emerge as a decisive political force in the state. At the out set Shri Dharampal Sharma, Senior Vice President PCC welcomed the president JK PCC and General Secretary AICC to the meeting. The President expressed great satisfaction that all the executive members, office bearers and district presidents from Jammu province were present in the meeting and the party was fully united and in high spirits for a cause that is service to people of all the three regions of the state. After the President JKPCC introduced the agenda for the meeting that related to the ensuing elections in the state, management of the campaign, issues of public importance, achievements of the coalition government in the state with particular reference to the developmental achievements during the Azad government, achievements of the UPA and the centre’s generous funding for the development of J&K state, there was a lively debate. The speakers included MPs Choudhary Lal Singh and Mr. Madan Lal Sharma, Ex-Ministers Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma, Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak, Mr. Mula Ram, Senior Vice Presidents Sh. Dharampal Sharma and Shri Amrit Malhotra, Vice Presidents Th. Hari Singh, Sh. Yash Paul Khajuria, S. Gurmukh Singh, General Secretaries Sh. R.S.Chib, Sh. Vinod Sharma, Sh. Ravinder Sharma, S. Amolak Singh, Sh. Hans Raj Bhagat, Ch. Shah Mohammad, Ch. Zaffar Ullah, Sh. Rattan Chand besides presidents of District Congress Committees, MLCs, former legislators and heads of frontal organisations. |
