| PDC owns 502 MW units | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Sept 26: The power situation in Jammu and Kashmir is likely to ease this winter as the 450 MW Baglihar power project will be commissioned soon, an official spokesperson said Friday. The Rs 5,002 crore phase one of the project is ready for commissioning while the work on second phase involving an expenditure of Rs 3,800 crore will start soon, the spokesperson said. The project was reviewed today at a meeting of the Power Development Corporation (PDC) chaired by Chairman of the State Finance Commission Mehmood-ur-Rehman here. Among those present were Commission's members Swami Raj Sharma and Sonam Dwa besides Secretary Nissar Ali. The spokesperson said the PDC has so far constructed 19 power projects with a total installed capacity of 502 MW, including 175 MW gas-based Pampore project. The Corporation has allotted ten power projects of 100 MW capacity each to private power companies with an estimated cost of Rs 700 crore, he said. The Commission is also looking at vertical and horizontal devolution of resources from the state to urban and rural local bodies, the spokesperson said. |
