| Miscarriage of US war on terrorism | | editorial | |
The fifth anniversary of, what has come to be known as 9/11, was observed on Monday in USA and several other countries of the world. It was on this day ie September 11, 2001 that terrorism struck USA in a big way. Two hijacked planes belonging to USA itself, loaded with explosives, struck at the Twin Towers, in New York, the busy business centers of that country, killing about 400 people and leading to a very heavy loss of property. The mighty American State took it as a challenge, allegedly by Osama Bin Laden and his Alquaida, Islamic fundamentalist terrorist outfit. It was on this day that USA and other Western allies awoke up to the threat posed to the modern world by the conservative and orthodox fundamentalist forces. As a reprisal USA launched, what was claimed to be a decisive war on international terrorism, with Alquaida and Taliban in Afghanistan being its fountain heads. A man hunt was launched to capture the king pin of Alquaida, Osama Bin Laden by the forces of US and other Western allies attacking Afghanistan and in the process over throwing the Taliban regime there and in its place installing a government loyal to the USA. Though USA and its allies succeeded in uprooting and demolishing the terrorist infrastructure and installations of Taliban and Alquida, yet the main professed objective of either capturing Osama Bin Laden alive or killing him nor eliminating the forces of international terrorism could be achieved. The Alquida and Taliban. Who were on the run and forced to lye low for sometime, have again raised their ugly heads and are consolidating themselves. These forces of evil are penetrating into many other Islamic fundamentalist terrorist outfits in different parts of the world including India and mainly Jammu and Kashmir, which has been on the hit list of terrorist from times much earlier than 9/11. Instead of concentrating and focusing all its energy and power to capture or kill Laden and liquidate the forces of terrorism, USA deviated from its professed path of waging a decisive was on terrorism, under its garb it began pursuing its imperialistic designs to have its hold over the weak countries, making these its virtual colonies. It opened yet another front by committing aggression on Iraq obtaining UN sanction for the same, on the plea of Iraq under Sadam Hussain having amassed weapons of mass destruction. In the process Sadam Hussain regime was over thrown and Sadan was taken as prisoner. Thus by diverting its attention from the professed objective of all out war on terrorism, enlisting the support of world as a whole for this noble cause, particularly of the countries victims of international terrorism, United States has not only failed in its objective, but its ill advised actions have consolidated the splinter terrorist forces, operating in different parts of the world, with limited objectives of their own, slowly and gradually coming on the single platform of war against the imperialism of USA and its Western allies. The Islamic fundamentalism is becoming the rallying point of these forces who lately more or less draw inspiration from Laden and Alquida, even if they are not directly linked to them.
