| Mufti alone knows the art of taking credit | | | Nirbhay Jammual
If in politics one should learn the art of taking credit for the work one does.Politicians need to learn the art of taking credit even for those works which they have not done. They should learn the technique of taking the credit the work done by others. And if anyone is adept in taking credit for doing this and that job it is the PDP leadership, especially Mufti Mohd.Sayeed.Whether out of his political vision or out of developed situation favourable to him he has succeeded in taking credit for many important events. Months before the 2002 Asembly election in Jammu and Kashmir he raised the issue of opening of the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road for traffic. He favoured easy and hassle free people to people contact. The issue of reopening of the Jehlum Valley road was debated for about over two years between India and Pakistan. The road was finally thrown open for traffic in April 2005.And to this date the Muftis have been taking credit for it.Even his supporters are not prepared to give credit to Gen.Parvez Musharraf and Dr Manmohan Singh. The Mufti emerged successful when his party won 16 seats in the Kashmir valley forcing the National Conference, which had won 28 seats,to sit in the opposition. And soon after taking over as Chief Minister Mufti Mohd.Sayeed pressed his demand for opening of Poonch-Rawalakot road for traffic.Yes,he demanded it and he got it.Again he took the credit for it.The credit should have been given to Manmohan Singh and Gen.Musharraf.It was not given because the Mufti,as a shrewd politician, knew the art of taking credit. After completing three-year tenure as Chief Minister in November 2005 Mufti Sayeed raised the demand for withdrawing troops from the orchards, agricultural fields, school and hospital buildings. The demand was conceded to a limited scale.Several school, hospital buildings and orchards were vacated by the troops. The credit for this was not given to the Defence Miniter,A.K.Antony,and the Army commanders, besides the Army Chief because by the time they could have asked for the credit the Mufti had stolen the show..At one stage he demanded demilitarisation which was patly conceded by the Government by reallocating troops. The Muftis were excited when some columns of troops were withdrawn from a pouple of areas in the valley. He had been misled by this withdrawal because they were reallocated in other areas. He has not given up this demand nor the demand for the repeal of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act.He could have taken the credit for seeing more columns of troops and the Act withdrawn had not the turmoil over the Amarnath Shrine land row added new dimensions to the law order and security scenario in the state, particularly in the Kashmir valley. With his eye on the forthcoming Assembly poll the Mufti has started demanding, that too vigorously, opening of the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road for trade. He knows it well that the road is likely to be thrown open for trade towards the third week of next month. He already knows that the issue has been debated by Indian and Pakistan during the last over one year.He is not ignorant about the proposal on opening of trade route having been sent by Delhi to Islamabad days before the agitation was started in the valley. He is well aware of the fact that much progress has been made between the two sides on the opening of trade route. But he will not allow Asif Ali Zardari and Manmohan Singh to take credit for having agreed to open trade routes. He knows it that the credit for this is reserved for him which he could utilise during the pre-poll campaign. This is politicisation and not politics. |
