| REMOVING CCTV SNAG: WHOSE BABY IT IS? | | | Jammu, September 11 :- The close Circuit Television (CCTV) on the Jammu railway station, that developed a major snag a month ago, awaits repair. Whose baby is the repair work of CCTV? This question continues to baffle not only the Jammu Kashmir police but those connected with railway protection activities. When the Kashmir Independent Press team visited the railway station on Monday it was informed that the Railway authorities in Jammu had nothing to do with the repair work.Mr Naresh Kalra Assisstant Engineer Signals and Telecommunication Engineer said “I cannot say anything. You better talk to senior officers in Ferozepur Division under which the Jammu wing of the railways fall.” Senior Railways officials said that “information regarding the snag in the CCTV has been communicated to Ferozepur Division authorities.” They said “our job is to maintain and operate the CCTV. If it has developed a snag we do not have the expertise to set it right.” They claimed that in the absence of the CCTV “we have strengthened the security grid on the railway station.” The Inspector General Police, Jammu range, Dr S.P.Vaid said,”we are concerned about the security situation on the railway station after the CCTV became functionless. Accordingly we have conveyed our concerns to the Railways authorities in Delhi.” Official sources told KIP that despite the lapse of over one month no senior engineer or technicians, either from Delhi or from Ferozepur, had come to Jammu, for removing the snag in the CCTV. When a section of Railways officials expressed resentment over the way the state police officials had been highlighting the perils of the snag in the CCTV a senior police officer said “state police share the responsibility of ensuring security of railways passengers and the track with the RPF, CRPF and hence we have reason to be concerned about the snag in the CCTV.” He said the Inspector General Crime and Railways has rushed to Delhi to apprise the Railways authorities to get the CCTV immediately rectified and implement the old demand for raising a fence around the railway station to check entry of trespassers and antinational elements. When shall the snag in the CCTV be removed? This question continues to bother the security and intelligence agencies. The sleuths of intelligence agencies are of the opinion that if some unsavoury incident took place on and around the railway station “we shall have to face the music.”Reports said that officials of intelligence agencies too have sent a report to their bosses in Delhi about the need for removing the snag in the CCTV. |
