Musharraf looks forward to 'substantive' talks with Dr Singh
9/11/2006 11:17:26 PM

New delhi: September 11: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on Monday said he looked forward to making his talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh "substantive" when they meet on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement summit in Havana later this week.
Before embarking on a three-nation tour, the President told reporters in Islamabad that his talks with the Prime Minister "carry much importance," state-run APP news agency said. "I hope and will make an effort to make the talks substantive, so that these are result oriented," he said.

Musharraf flies to Belgium on the first leg of his tour before travelling to Cuban capital Havana for NAM summit from where he would proceed to US. In the US, besides addressing UN General Assembly in New York, he would attend an 'Iftar party' hosted by President George W Bush along with Afghan President Hamid Karzai at the White House.

In the Belgian capital Brussels, Musharraf would address the 'Global Discourse on Kashmir,' organised by All Party Group for Kashmir in the European Parliament. In the US, Musharraf said he would discuss bilateral ties during his meeting with Bush.

He said Pakistan will discuss issues related to the Third World and measures to watch their common interests at the NAM summit. Noting that the Iftar party at White House has its own significance, he said, "We have already resolved the misunderstandings between Afghanistan and Pakistan during the recent visit to the neighbouring country.

"But maybe we can consolidate that further, while we meet again with President Bush, so that in the future we have a concerted strategy and we trust each other in our fight against terrorism and extremism," he said.
