| Siddharth fifty helps Tawish Scholars win U-16 tourney | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 27: Brilliant knock of 52 (off 62 balls, 3x4) by Siddharth heldp Tawish Scholars XI register a six wickets victory over K C Public School in the final of under-16 cricket tournament for Polly Umrigar Trophy organized by Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here today.
Batting first after winning the toss, Tawish Scholars opted to field first. Tawish Scholars restricted KC Public to a moderate total of 118 runs for the loss of six wickets in the 25 overs game and later chased the total in 24 overs with four wickets in hand.
Rohit was top scorer from KC Public with 30 runs off 20 balls studded with four boundaries while Ashish contributed 28 runs. From Tawish Scholars, Vinay was most successful bowler with three for nine in four overs while Gurdeep Singh too one.
In reply, Tawish Scholars, who played slow but steady innings, attained the goal for the loss of six wickets sparing one over of their innings. Siddharth made highest 52 runs for the winners. Mussa Sarin, Hisham, Tapan and Sumaya Jain shared one wicket each from K C Public.
Now, the winners Tawish Scholars will represent the JKCA in Group-B North Zone under-16 school tournament for Polly Umrigar Trophy to be held in Himachal Pradesh from October Ist. The team shall depart for the venue tomorrow.
Since, in the under-16 school tournaments, every state has to field two teams, the JKCA in Group-A is being represented by Burn Hall School, Srinagar. The group-A competitions, which were earlier scheduled for Srinagar, have been shifted to Delhi by the fixture committee of BCCI on the request of JKCA.
