| Vohra hints at VAT extension | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 27: Days after traders of Jammu and Kashmir got a much needed relief by extension deadline for filing Income Tax returns, the Governor NN Vohra today further held up the hopes while indicating yet another extension in the deadline for payment of Value Added Tax (VAT) for the second quarter of this year. Responding to the demands of Chamber of Commerce and Industries, the Governor also assured to consider extension up to November this year, the date for VAT Audit Report, which is scheduled to be done by September 2008. The Governor was interacting with a 40-member delegation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Jammu, led by Mr Ram Sahai, here this evening. The Chamber listed various problems faced by the industry due to recent disturbed conditions in the state. Several other delegations also called on the Governor and apprised him of their collective problems, mostly related to public utility services like drinking water, electricity, health-care, rations etc. Vohra directed the Civil Administration for strengthening the monitoring and follow up mechanism to ensure the punctuality of the government staff and availability of essential services, particularly in rural and remote areas. Responding to the issue of non-availability of doctors in various rural Health Centres of the Doda district, the Governor ordered for exploring the possibilities of deputing medicos on contractual basis till the viable arrangements are made. |
