| BSF foils intrusion bid | | 8 ultras, jawan killed in Valley | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 27: Close to the heels of India and Pakistan vowing to make the Line of Control as Line of Commerce, borders continue to face intense aggression from other side as militants today made yet another infiltration attempt along the International Border in Pargwal sector. Elsewhere in the militancy related operations at least eight militants have been reported killed in different encounters across Kashmir Valley in past 24 hours. Alert jawans of Border Security Force Saturday foiled major infiltration bid by suspected group of militants along the International Border with Pakistan in Pargwal sector. The infiltration bid was attempted by suspected militants in front of Indian border outpost Chak Phagwari in Pargwal sector under the cover of firing by the Pakistani rangers. The intermittent firing continued for over 45 minutes, Border Security Force (BSF) spokesman in Jammu said adding that Indian side retaliated the fire to prevent intrusion bid. In a press statement, BSF spokesman claimed that around 12.00 am, BSF patrol first noticed movement of large number of people near the protective bundh raised by the Pakistani rangers in their territory. The spokesman said within few moments Indian patrol came under heavy fire from the Pakistani side and took positions. The fire continued for over 45 minutes from the Pakistani side. BSF troops retaliated the fire foiling major infiltration bid, BSF spokesman said claiming no one was injured during the exchange of fire. The BSF spokesman claimed that Under Barrel Grenade Launchers and AK series rifles were used to target the Indian posts. He also claimed that when BSF men retaliated the fire the infiltrators rushed back deep into the Pakistani territory. Almost a month ago, a group of infiltrators had managed to cut barbed fencing on the International Border and had sneaked inside the Indian Territory from the Pakistani side. Meanwhile, eight militants and an army jawan were killed and two other jawans injured in three separate encounters across the Valley, official sources said here on Saturday. Based on specific information that a group of militants were moving in high altitude region between Bandipora and Kangan, army launched search and destroy operation yesterday, the sources said. They said four militants have been shot dead so far while an army jawan was also killed in the gunbattle in the area. Search operations were going on in the area, the sources added. In another encounter, security forces shot dead two militants in Kenigam village of Rajpora area in Pulwama district, the sources said. They said the slain militants have been identified as Shakeel and Adnan belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammad militant outfit. Two security forces personnel were injured in the gunbattle. An unidentified militant was shot dead by security forces in Vilgam area Kupwara district, the sources said adding the operation was going on till last reports came in. |
