| Serving trade ties with Jammu disastrous: Mohtra | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 28: ‘Severing trade ties with Jammu will prove disastrous for the Kashmiri traders and the public at large’, said Chairman Coordination Committee CFA and distributors of Jammu region here today. He has appealed the traders of Kashmir to keep politics out of trade relations, as continuing healthy trade relations between the two regions is in the mutual interests of the both. Addressing media persons, Chairman of the coordination committee cautioned the Kashmiri traders against falling prey to the machinations of separatist elements, which on their instigation, resorted to severing of trade ties with Jammu and said that that this will prove disastrous for the Kashmiri traders and the public at large. It may be recalled that CFA and Distributors in its general body meeting of Commission and Forwarding Agents and Distributors held here yesterday had constituted a 9-member coordination committee, with Kulbushan Mohtra as its Chairman to chalk out a line of action to meet the challenge posed to their business interests as a result of totally illogical and uncalled for trade boycott of Jammu resorted to by some Kashmiri traders, on the behest of secessionist elements, who are using the trading community of Kashmir valley as their tools to pursue their anit India and secessionist agenda. Mohtra said that the Kashmiri traders owe Rs.5000 crore to distributors and forwarding agents of Jammu against goods supplied to them on credit. Presently the trucks carrying supplies to various parts of Kashmir by the Jammu distributors are not being allowed to be unloaded there, under threat from the secessionists. He added that while the secessionists and their henchmen among the trading community in Kashmir had raised the wolf cry over non existent economic blockade of Kashmir, they are now indulging in self economic blockade and siege of valley. While the ailing people in the valley are not getting medicines and drugs prescribed by the doctors, the stockiest, druggists and chemists in Kashmir are not accepting the supplies being sent by the distributors from Jammu. In this way they are acting against the interest of their own people and even putting their lives to risk. The Coordination Committee Chairman has also appealed to the manufacturers and wholesale stockiest as well as the multinational companied, who have been dealing with Kashmir through Jammu distributors, to not submit before the pressure of traders in Kashmir, who are acting on the behest of elements having vested interest, with secessionist agenda. He also warned the companied in the country and the multinational companies against doing direct billing with Kashmir traders bypassing distributors and forwarding agents of Jammu. In case they do so, Jammu distributors will be forced to boycott their products and even take other direct action, to safeguard their business interests. Mohtra informed that they have already sealed the depots of M/S Ruchi Soya Industries Ltd and Cargill India Ltd who have done direct billing bypassing Jammu depots. The Management of these companies has now assured them that they will not do direct billing with Kashmiri traders. Mohtra also appealed the government to safeguard the interest of Jammu traders, which in no way clash with trade interest of Kashmiris. He also appealed the Governor and the administration to expedite the matter of paying compensation to the traders of Jammu as well as Kashmir valley for the losses suffered by them during the period of two regions. Anil Gupta, S.K. Sarin, Sunil, Jain, Sunil Aggarwal, Naresh Gupta and Om Gupta were also present at the press conference. |
