| Bandipora Bus Stand: Transporters demand probe in construction work | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
BANDIPORA, Sept 28 : Notwithstanding Municipal Committee Bandipora(MCB) spend around rupees two crore on the construction of bus stand Bandipora, it has been almost three-month now, the newly constructed bus stand is yet to be thrown open for the use owing to which the transporters face lot of problems.
Sources in the MCB said that there has been some dispute between Chairman MCB and Deputy Commissioner Bandipora including Director Local Bodies, even as the newly constructed bus stand here has been ready for the past three month, it has not been thrown open for use by the authorities, because of the confrontation.
Alleging embezzlement in construction funds, locals told News Agency of Kashmir that instead of sanctioned Rupees 2 crore, municipality has spend only few Lakhs which is said to be the main cause that Bus stand is not being thrown open for the public use.
"The Municipal Committee Bandipora run by renegades and famous for bungling have sped only few Lakhs of rupees in construction of the Bus stand which should be investigated by the vigilance", said Abdul Rashid an elderly person, adding "deputy commissioner Bandipora seized cash books and other records related to construction of Bus stand but no action was initiated against the culprits so far.
"Large numbers of big and small vehicles are being parked on either side of the road in main market creating problems for the road-users and making that particular stretch of the Bandipora market accident-prone," Ghulam Muhammad Kucahay a member of Traders Federation Bandipora told NAK.
Since the buses, Sumos, auto rickshaws and carts remain lined up on the roadside waiting for passengers, the area continues to be a major traffic bottleneck for the passers-by. Moreover, the main road in the Bandipora markets is narrow and prone to accidents as there is no one neither to check the fast speed of vehicles nor growing traffic jams.
"Besides approaching deputy Commissioner Bandipora regarding the growing traffic jams and lack of police men who can manage the jam's proved useless" said Muhammad Ismail a shopkeeper, adding "we feel that the work of District administration here in Bandipora is not to look into the problems of public but to pass the time in day long chats in the office chambers without looking outside.
The new bus stand has been constructed on a 47 kanal and 14 marlas plot in out skirts of Bandipora at Nusoo, the land on which MC has laid few trucks of sand and mud which is totally in Dilapidated condition it needs more modification to complete the construction, allege another trader wishing not to be named. "The contract of Constructing Bus stand was approved in favor of MCB, which fails to complete the construction till date".
"A payment of 2.Cr has already been made while completion of bus stand is incomplete as reported by director locals Bodies, when visited the construction" a top level officer in director local bodies officer told NAK, adding "we have received numerous complaints about he embezzlement of construction of funds".
The construction of the bus stand began two years back but the project remained held up for some time as Deputy Commissioner Bandipora was investigating the bunglings made by MB in construction of Bus stand.
Alleging MCB of not hiring the services experienced Engineers, transporters of the District said that the map and design of Bus stand is in sufficient and no facilities have being made available besides getting huge amount of funds for the construction.
"Without keeping the proper designing in view, MCB have start construction and have wasted the funds," said president Transport Association Bandipora Ab Rashid, adding "we will not shift from old Bus stand till MCB will not arrange all the facilities available in the newly constructed bus stand"
Alleging Director local Bodies and district Administration of confronting attitude, Chairman MCB Mushtaq Ahmed Sofi said, "We have spend all the 2Cr.on the construction of Bus Stand besides spending 40,000 among our Municipal funds"
"Being the big project under construction, we approached District Administration and Director Local bodies for release of further funds but they are not responding, that is why the Bus stand is yet to be opened for the public" Sofi Added. |
