NABARD observes full day strike
3/31/2021 12:01:02 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 30: The officers, employees and retirees of NABARD are on agitation for nearly one and a half years now under the banner of UFOERN. A full day strike was organized on 30 March 2021 on the long pending pension related issues.
It was in 1982 that the management of RBI in order to assuage the fears of the employees of RBI while appealing them to join the new organisation (NABARD) assured in writing that the pay, allowances and superannuation benefits would be protected and revised as and when the same are revised for their colleagues who remained back in RBI.
The written assurance was also bolstered by guaranteeing the same in Section 50 of NABARD Act, 1981. The parity with RBI in all service conditions including pension was further cemented over the years in all the 07 bipartite wage settlements with the workmen association of NABARD. Further, the Pension Regulations of NABARD were framed in the year 1993 on the same lines as that of RBI.
Pertinent to mention here is that the corpus in the pension fund of NABARD which basically is the money of the employees they would otherwise have received as matching contribution by the employer (NABARD) to their provident fund is good enough to take care of any future liabilities and will not either affect the profitability of NABARD in any way or put pressure of any kind on the budgetary provisions of GoI.
As a result, the staff members of NABARD – both serving and retired – are on agitation under the banner of the United Forum of Officers, Employees and Retirees of NABARD (UFOERN) since September 2019. Employees of NABARD have come down onto the roads to protest for the inordinate delay in settling their rightful dues.
Meanwhile, no less than six former chairmen/MDs of NABARD have written a joint letter to FM, GOI appealing that all the pension related issues in NABARD be settled on the lines of RBI without any further delay.
All the pleas have fallen on deaf ears. The UFOERN is likely to intensify the current agitation in NABARD with two day strikes march to Parliament if the one day strike scheduled on 30 March 2021 fails to nudge Management of NABARD, DFS, GOI to agree to genuine demands of NABARD employees.
