| Reschedule University, BOSE Exams in J&K : Tarigami | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Sept 28: State Secretary CPI (M) Mohd Yousuf Tarigami has asked the University and the Board of School Education authorities to examine on merits the demand of students for rescheduling the annual Board and University examination and allowing some concession. In a press statement issued here today, Mohd Yousuf Tarigami said that the School Education Board and University authorities to allow some concessions like - making some part/s of syllabi non-evaluative or provide open choice in different question papers or allowing students to attempt a particular percentage of marks in each question papers , say 80 % marks in view of the fact that Educational Institutions have not been able to cover / transact the entire syllabi prescribed for various examinations. "We all know that schools, colleges and even the University lost quite a large number of teaching learning periods because of the unfortunate circumstances that prevailed in the State. Obviously, it has not been possible for educational institutions to transact the prescribed curriculum meaningfully. It is a very unfortunate situation, While it may not be desirable to dilute standards by downgrading the syllabi prescribed it is neither appropriate nor desirable to set an examination based on syllabi which has not been transacted by the educational institutions due to unfortunate circumstances that befell the State, he added. Forcing students to appear in an examination for which they are not fully prepared will lead to poor result, the CPIM leader said. Asking schools and colleges to take extra classes to finish the syllabi is one thing and whether it is being followed is another thing. "We need to consider the ground situation and take a rational decision", He said adding "I am sure a way can be found out to provide some relief to the students with out compromising the standards set". Let the concerned authorities immediately critically examine the issue; take teachers and students in to confidence and take a decision to end the uncertainty. "Not attending to the genuine requests of students will unnecessarily complicate the issue and force students on agitation path ; which is not only undesirable but detrimental to the interests of our students"; Tarigami said. |
