| Restoration of Art 370 impossible; PDP leadership realizes | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 30: Notwithstanding public posturing of the party, the leadership of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has ultimately realized that restoration of Article 370 is not possible. Reliable sources said that during first meeting of the newly constituted Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the party, this issue was thoroughly discussed but party leadership failed to evolve consensus on vital issue. “Majority of the members were of the opinion that restoration of Article 370 is not possible because national level political party will dare to support any move in the future to bring back this Article”, sources said but added that party leadership was not ready to abandon this demand. “Instead of accepting this reality, top brass of PDP has asked leaders to rake up this issue only to mobilize support of the people”, sources said.
During debate on the abrogation of Article 370, majority of the national parties had supported BJP led NDA government in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on August 5 and 6, 2019. Even Congress party had not vociferously opposed move of the government at that time. After August 5, 2019, Congress party could not muster guts to openly support the demand of bringing back Article 370 in J&K. Without support of national parties, it is not possible to bring back Article 370 in J&K because the same decision has to be taken by the Parliament with majority.
Sources said that during the PAC meeting some PDP leaders sought to draw attention of the party leadership towards stand of the national parties. Sources said that majority of the PAC members were of the view that instead of raising the demand of restoring Article 370, party should focus on the statehood which is possible. |
