| Navratra festival to showcase JK`s grandeur | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 28: The nine-day Navratra festival, commencing from September 30, will display the grandeur of Jammu and Kashmir with art, culture and food events in Katra, the base camp of Mata Vaishnodevi cave shrine. "The aim of this multi-dimensional event is to display the grandeur of the state and boost tourism," Divisional commissioner of Jammu Zone, Sadhanshu Panday told reporters in Jammu on Sunday. Cultural programmes, light and sound shows, religious discourses, Hassya Vayang (Laughter show) and wrestling event will be the highlights of the festival, Panday said, adding that there will also be an ethnic food festival. "The government is mulling over a plan to paint the entire pilgrim town in a uniform colour on the pattern of the Pink city of Jaipur to heighten its splendour and boost tourism," he said. The festival is being organised jointly by Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Shrine Board (SMVSB) and state tourism department. Security will be beefed up during the nine-day festival. CCTVs will be installed at different locations in Katra town. |
