| Governor for speedy execution of Jagti township work | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 28: The Governor, N. N. Vohra has emphasized for speeding up the work on the upcoming mini township coming up at Jagti for the Kashmiri migrants. The township comprising 4218 flats in 176 blocks spread over 716 kanals of land is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 294 crores. Each 3-storey block will have 24 flats. The covered area of each flat will be 495 sft. The Governor who visited the township today inspected the site plan and model of the entire project. He also went inside the under-construction flats and enquired about the details of the accommodation and facilities being created in the colony. While inspecting the pace of work on the project, the Governor emphasized for speeding up the work to complete the project in a time bound manner. The Governor was apprised about the salient features of the project by the Relief Commissioner, Vinod Koul, being executed under the Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Plan. Principal Secretary to Governor, B. B. Vyas, Commissioner/Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu,. Sudhanshu Pandey, DIG, Jammu Range, A. Q. Manhas, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Dr. Mandeep. K. Bhandari and other senior officers were present on the occasion. In the first phase of the project, 1024 two-room sets were constructed at a cost of Rs. 51 crores at Purkhoo, Muthi and Nagrota migrant camps. The work on the second phase of the project was started at Jagti for construction of 4218 flats in October last year. The township has been designed for a population of 25000 with the required infrastructure. All the blocks will have connectivity through roads. Other facilities being created in the township include sewerage treatment plant, parks, schools, hospital, commercial complexes, mini-shopping complexes, bus stand and parking, community halls, water and power supply, play field etc. The period of completion of the project is 24 months i.e. September 2009. A new road from Nagrota to the township will be developed which will further reduce the distance from Jammu city to the township and provide an easy access to Nagrota town. |
