Hostilities are gone, SAYSS meets Vohra

JAMMU, Sept 28: Nearly a month after suspension of the two-month long agitation on Amarnath land row, the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti members today called on the Governor NN Vohra –none of the sides has explained the basic purpose of this unprecedented meeting.
Sources said it was neither a thanksgiving nor a complaining meeting but was about informing the Governor about issues of Jammu region. “The meeting was cordial and forward looking”, sources told EARLY TIMES. Leela Karan Sharma, covenor of the Samiti led the 35-member delegation.
It may be recalled here that the Governor NN Vohra had remained at the center of protests and demonstrations launched by the Samiti for two months. It was at several occasions that the Samiti members refused to meet the Governor during agitation.
Briefing about the meeting, an official spokesman said that the Governor, Mr N N Vohra, today reiterated that various steps were being taken for the developmental tempo to be accelerated with renewed vigour to make good the serious delays caused due to the disturbed situation in both the regions, which had adversely affected the entire State in the past nearly three monghs.
Interacting with a 35-member delegation of the Shri Amarnathji Yatra Sangarash Samiti, here this afternoon, the Governor expressed his concern over the losses suffered in every sphere of activity particularly the academics of the younger generation, by protestations in both the regions of the State.
The delegation, led by Mr Leela Karan Sharma, expressed their concerns on various issues relating to the Jammu Province, particularly in the context of the recent agitation.
The Governor stressed the importance of maintaining peace and normalcy and striving for further strengthening the bonds of communal harmony, for which the State has been known for centuries. He also exhorted the people of Jammu Division to extend full cooperation to the Administration in maintaining order, implementing welfare schemes and restoring the erstwhile trade and business relations between the regions.
The Samiti leaders assured that the people Jammu, belonging to all walks of life, would contribute in maintaining the traditional harmony of the State.
Advisor to Governor, Dr Sudhir S Bloeria, Principal Secretary to Governor, Mr B B Vyas, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Mr Sudhanshu Pandey and IGP, Jammu, Mr K Rajendra, were also present in the meeting.
