| Court rejects bail of Capt Chatenya | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 29: 3rd Additional Sessions Judge Jammu Mr. Sanjay Gupta today rejected the bail petition of Capt Chatenya Bhatawadekar, husband of deceased Capt Megha Razdan. In the much publicized death case of Capt Megha Razdan, in which the husband of deceased Capt Chatenya was arrested and challan was presented by the police u/s 306/498-A RPC, the allegations against the accused is that after solemnization of marriage with deceased Megha Razdan, accused Capt Chatenya started harassing the deceased as the accused was having illicit relationship with other girl and he used to send her SMS and when his wife deceased Capt Megha Razdan tried to stop, accused treated the deceased with cruelty. On the fateful day July 1, 2007 accused and deceased were in their residential quarter and the accused did not allow Megha Razdan to meet her higher Army Officer and treated her with cruelty. The deceased could not bear cruelty; she committed suicide by hanging herself with the fan in her quarter. According to the challan in this way accused committed the offence abetment of suicide whereas accused has already been charge-sheeted u/s 306/498-A RPC. 3rd Additional Sessions Judge, after hearing APP Mr. GS charak appearing for the state and Adv Sunil Sethi appearing for the petitioner, and also referring various judgments, observed that the nature of the accusation is serious because by the act of the accused, the deceased Megha Razdan, was forced to leave this world by hanging herself with a fan. She was Captain having bright future in her life. It is also a fact that accused is a non- resident, there is every apprehension of fleeing from trial and being Army personnel, he can threaten the prosecution witnesses. The act of the accused has shaken the consciousness of Public at large. Accused being Army officer has to protect the life of civilian but in present case he has taken the life of his life-partner by abetting her to commit suicide. With these observations, the Court dismissed the bail application. JNF |
