Cricket: 18-member U-22 team leaves for Srinagar

JAMMU, Sept 29: To undergo a joint selection camp with their counterparts from Kashmir, 18 cricketers selected from Jammu Province yesterday in under-22 group today left for Srinagar, the Summer Capital of the state.
Beginning from tomorrow, the selection camp will end with selectors of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) picking up a state team which will represent J&K in the forthcoming Col. C K Nayudu (four-day matches) tournament.
The competition is scheduled to start from October 12 with J&K taking on Himachal Pradesh in the opening league match at Patiala in Punjab.
“The 18-member selected squad from Jammu Province today left for Srinagar for a joint camp at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium. During the camp the four-member state selectors will pick-up the final team out of the 36 probable from both Jammu and Kashmir wings of the JKCA,” joint secretary of the Jammu wing of JKCA, Sunit Sharma told SAN.
“Soon after the state team is selected by the penal of selectors, boys will come to Jammu where they will be having practice sessions before their departure for the venue,” added the joint secretary.
Meanwhile, a couple of senior cricketers, on the condition of anonymity, told SAN that the JKCA selectors have named some overage players in the list of selected probable from Jammu province in U-22 group. However, when contacted the joint secretary of JKCA, Sunit Sharma in this regard, he said, “We are confident enough that there is hardly any overage cricket in the final 18. Still, I want to convey to those who have resentment that the medical (bone test) examination, a pre-condition of the BCCI to ascertain the exact age, is yet to be done on the final selected state team.”
He maintained that if, any cricketer found overage by the medical test, not only he will be shunted out, but action will be initiated against him under rules.
The selected probable: Munish Dogra (projected wicket-keeper captain), Rohit Bhat, Deepak Sharma, Sohit Khajuria, Sahil Bhalwal, Rahil Singh, Ram Dayal, Manik Gupta, Sourav Chopra, Dilbag Singh, Vijay Singh Chib, Radha Shyam, Atul Sharma, Parteek Kumar, Chetan Chib, Rompy Sharam, Sandeep Singh (wicket-keeper), Sidhant Sharma.
