EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 29: Following delayed entrance, the Board of Professional Entrance Examination had declared the selection list of candidates selected for various professional courses including MBBS, BDS, Veterinary Sciences and Engineering.
The list reflects a tough competition among the students as names of dozens of successful students are tied up between two to three numbers. As the BPEE categorizes list on basis of gender and social categories, the difference between males and females in open merit of MBBS is only six marks. Another interesting of this year’s list is that many candidates from Resident of Backward Areas (RBA) category have been selected in the open merit.
According to the BPEE the highest merit in open category of the MBBS course has touched 210 marks while the cut off in this category has been at 184 marks. Jaan Mohammad Suhail has topped the list with 204 marks.
In the female category, the highest merit is at 198 marks. Interestingly, top three topper have tie at the same number. The lucky girls are Nidhi Sharma, Manvi Verma and Benish Altaf –all scoring 198 marks. Next two girls are at 197 marks. Cut off merit in open category of girls for MBBS has been registered at 176 marks.
At least candidates from the RBA category, three from JKPM and one each from SC, SC, SP and CDP categories have made their way in the open merit list –which means they have scored higher numbers than the cut off merit of open category list.
Another interesting feature of this year’s list is that the merit of Scheduled Tribes (Gujjar and Bakerwals) category has gone above the merit of Scheduled Caste category which used to be on the contrary till recently. Boys in SC list have scored upto 175 marks while girls have the highest merit of 174 marks. In SC category Rakesh Kumar has topped among boys and Haveena Kumar is topper among girls scoring 174 marks.
In STGB boys have touched 176 marks while girls have scored highest marks at 171. Zia Abdullah with 176 marks and Bushra Chouhan with 171 marks have topped their respective gender classes in STGB category.
The highest merit in RBA is at 173 marks and cut off at 170. There appears to have been toughest competition in this category.
Among other streams: the highest merit in BVSC has been at 171 marks and in BE 171 marks.
Entrance examination for various professional courses was conducted by the Board of Professional Studies on September 13 and 14.
It may be mentioned here that the BoPEE had obtained a prior extension of 10 days from Supreme Court (SC) to complete the counseling and admission process for MBBS and BDS courses after failing to conduct the CET in time due to turbulent circumstances prevailing in the State during July-August period. The extension was necessitated in the wake of September 30 being the deadline for admission to MBBS and BDS, as said by Supreme Court, the Secretary added.
