| With 68% Muslims, BJP smells foul | | ‘Scrap list, hold inquiry, conduct fresh test’ | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 30: Accusing the Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (JKBPEE) of denying the Jammu aspirants their due share in admission to MBBS, BDS and BVSC courses, BJP state vice-president and spokesman Prof. Hari Om today demanded cancellation of all the select lists, holding of examinations afresh and implementation of the 1999 Singhal Committee report in full. “Fresh examination by an impartial authority, to be constituted by the Universities of Jammu and Kashmir, and implementation of the Singhal report are a must to undo the wrong committed by the biased and Kashmir-centric JKBPEE on the non-Muslims, including Hindus, Sikhs, Kashmiri Hindus and Buddhists and Muslim youth of Poonch-Rajouri, Doda, Kishtwar and Kargil”, said Prof. Hari Om. Commenting on the unfairness of the JKBPEE, BJP spokesman said that out of a total of 290 MBBS seats, only 93 (32 per cent) have gone to the non-Muslims, including Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists and Kashmiri Hindus and that their share in open category is only 12.5 per cent (33 out of 125 seats). He said the Muslim aspirants hailing from Jammu province and Kargil have also been treated unfairly by the JKBPEE and that they have been allotted not more than a couple of dozen seats in MBBS. He further said the Muslim candidates belonging to Jammu province have been virtually denied admission under the open category. Prof. Hari Om said that he non-Muslim aspirants hailing from Jammu and the Muslim candidates hailing from Jammu province have also been ignored by the JKBPEE while selecting candidates for the BVSC and BDS courses. He said the share of these communities is only 20 out of 86 in BVSC and 44 out of 113 in BDS, and candidates in BDS under open merit is only 2 out of a total of 25 seats. Commenting on the share of the Muslim aspirants belonging to Jammu province in BDS and BVSC courses, Prof Hari Om said that they, like their non-Muslim brethren, have been excluded, adding their share is not even 5 per cent. The BJP spokesman said the time has come for the implementation of the Singhal Committee report, which suggests that all the seats available in the medical and engineering colleges, located in Jammu, should be made the sole preserve of the Jammu youth and those available in Kashmir the sole preserve of the Kashmiri youth. He urged all the political parties, functioning in Jammu, to raise their voice against the vindictive JKBPEE so that the Jammu youth get their due share in the professional institutions.
