Omer Abdullah endorses Azad on self rule
9/11/2006 11:23:05 PM

Srinagar, September 11: Endorsing Chief Minister Gh Nabi Azad on self rule, National Conference President Omer Abdullah has said that even if India would grant sovereignty to Kashmir, Pakistan won’t accept Jammu & Kashmir as a sovereign state.
Addressing a function organized in connection with 4 th death anniversary of former Law Minister Mushtaq Ahmed Lone at Dak Bungalow Kupwara , Omer Abdullah on Monday said“Those sloganeering sovereignty have prompted youth to take up guns, but they have not occupied even a single inch during last 17 years of armed struggle”.
Launching a scathing attack on PDP for hoodwinking people in the name of self rule, Omer said “ When Mehbooba Mufti is asked to explain self rule, she fails to do so”. Alleging that PDP leadership has created an un-necessary hype over the issue, Omer quoted estranger PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig as having said that self rule is the photocopy of restoration of state autonomy proposed by National Conference. Claiming that National Conference has drawn a road map in the form of ‘autonomy’with the mandate of the people, Omer said that those struggling for sovereignty of the state must understand that Pakistan does not accept a sovereign Jammu & Kashmir State. Quoting Pakistan President General Parvez Musharaff during his meeting with him as having said that even if India accedes sovereignty to Jammu & Kashmir State, Pakistan will not agree to it, Omer asked “If people struggling for independence could not occupy even a single inch during last 17 year, how come it is possible that they would occupy whole Jammu & Kashmir State”.
Stating that whether gun is in the hands of an army personnel or a militant, violence can’t be a substitute to dialogue process, Omer asked militants to drop gun and join talks for an acceptable political settlement of Kashmir issue. Criticising the Government, Omer said “Chief Minister Gh Nabi Azad follows the footprints of PDP Chief Patron Mufti Mohd Sayeed now. The people of Kupwara are being punished for the fault of voting in favour of National Conference candidates”. He asked party worker to gear up for next assembly elections right in the earnest. Among others who spoke on the occasion and paid tributes to late Mushtaq Ahmed Lone include Ab rahim Rather, Dr Mehboob Baig, Mir Saifullah and Qaiser Jamshed Lone.
Omer Abdullah accompanied by Congress veteran Gh rasool Kar inaugurated a cricket tournament organized in memory of Bandipora wular boat tragedy victims at Handwara later, while as a blood donation camp was also organized at District Hospital Handwara in this connection. Interestingly Omer Abdullah and Gh Rasool Kar board a car and were together throughout their journey.
