KCCI Chief’s passport being impounded
9/30/2008 11:56:42 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, Sept 30 The passport of an official of Kashmir's industry lobby is being impounded for his alleged separatist links and activities.
Regional passport officer B.L. Manavalan said the passport of Mobeen Shah, the president of Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries, is being scrutinised and the process to impound it has been initiated.
The step, Manavalan said, was being taken because of "Shah's known separatist links and activities, according to state intelligence authorities".
Shah is also a member of a coordination committee of the two factions of the Hurriyat Conference.
The coordination committee has been spearheading the recent separatist rallies in the Kashmir Valley and is also planning to hold a sit-in at city centre Lal Chowk Oct 6.
The passport officer told reporters that a notice has already been served to Shah to explain why his passport should not be confiscated in the wake of his alleged secessionist activities
