| BSF concerned over frequent infiltration bids by ultras | | | AGENCY NEW DELHI, Sept 30:The Border Security Force on Tuesday said there have been frequent attempts by militants, under the "overt" support of the Pakistan Rangers, to storm the International Border(IB) to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir. "The IB has become vulnerable which is a matter of concern," outgoing Director General of BSF A K Mitra told reporters here referring to the recent seven infiltration bids by the militants from across the border. Of the seven infiltration attempts, two have been successful including the one on August 27 on the outskirts of Jammu where three militants, after crossing the IB, took hostage eleven people including four children of a family. The militants killed four persons, including an army officer, before being killed in a nineteen-hour hostage drama. "Earlier, the IB was relatively calm and there was hardly any attempt to break the fencing. But now, the militants have been making attempts in strength to enter through IB," he said. Describing the border along Pakistan as "hostile", Mitra said Pakistan Rangers was supporting the militants to enter India in an "overt" manner. "Along the Bangladesh border, there is no government support to the infiltrators. But along the IB in Jammu and Kashmir, the Pakistan Rangers give firing cover to the militants to enter India," he said. The BSF DG said there has been little response from Pakistan to stop such incident despite lodging strong protest after every such infiltration bid. |
