| Vohra’s men: Let’s take clock back | | State Advisory Council Appeals for Peace, Restoration of Harmony | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Sept 30: As the Governor NN Vohra takes a wide spectrum of politicians, retired bureaucrats, businessmen and academicians to his side in his public outreach program a first appeal has been issued for reversing the processes and circumstances which caused varied losses over past few months and to place the State, once again, on the path of development and nurture the historic organic linkages between different communities across the three regions of the State. The Advisory Council of the Governor, constituted recently, had its maiden meeting in Srinagar this afternoon. 27 of 36 members attended the meeting which had only one member each from Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party and none from the National Conference. According to an official spokesman, after the end of three-hour discussions, he Council adopted the following Resolution, unanimously. "Through the forum of the first ever meeting of the State Advisory Council, held today, the 30th September 2008, under the Chairmanship of His Excellency the Governor of J&K at SKICC, Srinagar, all of us, the Members of the Advisory Council, declare our strong and united commitment to the promotion of peace, communal and regional amity so as to preserve the composite cultural ethos of the State and our age-old tradition of harmony and spirit of assimilation. Further, we resolve to exercise our personal and collective influence- social, moral and intellectual- to create an environment of trust and faith and to rebuild mutual understanding, through dialogue and conciliation, which seeks to preserve and nurture the historic organic linkages between different communities across the three regions of the State. The Council also expresses profound grief and sorrow over the loss of life during the unfortunate incidents in the recent period of turbulence in the State. The Council also expresses its deep concern about the grave consequences which have arisen for the student community due to the recent disruptions. It also voices its concern about the economic losses and appeals to all concerned to strive hard to effectively reverse the processes and circumstances which caused these losses and to place the State, once again, on the developmental path. The Council fervently appeals to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to strengthen peace and development and collectively and unitedly work for a brighter and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir." It was unanimously agreed that the next meeting of the Council will be held on October 18, 2008 at 10.30 a.m in Srinagar. The meeting was attended by Mr Abdul Aziz Zargar, Mr Ghulam Hassan Mir, Prof Amitabh Mattoo, Prof Riyaz Punjabi, Mr Amrit Malhotra, Mr Anil Suri, Mr A R Tukroo, Mr Ashok Khajuria, Prof Bhim Singh, Mr Ghulam Hassan Khan, Maj Gen (Retd) Govardhan Singh Jamwal, Dr Girja Dhar, Prof Lalit Magotra, Mr Masud Choudhry, Mr M M Khajuria, Mian Altaf Ahmed, Mr M Y Tarigami, Mahanat Manjeet Singh, Hakim Mohammed Yasin, Mr Muzaffar Shah, Prof Nusrat Andrabi, Mr Ram Sahai, Prof Sidiq Wahid, Sheikh Abdul Rehman, Mr Sofi Yousf , Mr Daman Bhasin and Mr Zaffar Manhas.
