| Eid today, Navratras throw festivity | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 30: The Muslim holy festival of Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated tomorrow after a late night announcement to this effect was made by the Imam of Jammu’s Jamia Masjid. Confusion prevailed till late evening as the crescent was not clearly spotted anywhere or any confirmation made by the Muslim Clergy. It was late was late in the night when the Imam of Jammu’s Jamia Masjid endorsed the reports of crescent having been seen by the Hilal Committees (committee to spot crescent and declare Eid) of Kashmir and Pakistan. However, in most part of countries Eid will be celebrated on October 2. The Shahi Imam of Jamia Masjid announced this evening that Eid shall be celebrated on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Navratra festivity has gripped the region with major attractions in the holy town of Katra and in Jammu. Advisor to Governor Dr Sudhir Singh Bloeria inaugurated the Navratra festival at Katra this morning which was attended by thousands of people drawn from various parts of country. Large number of devotees thronged the different temples in Jammu to offer special prayers and pay their obescience to Godess Durga on the occasion of first Navratra, today. All the City temples were tastefully decorated befitting the occasion. According to the volunteers at the temple, the devotees started coming to the temple at 2 am and remained standing in long queues while the main gates were opened at 4 am for the darshan. The rush of devotees continued throughout the day to pay their obeisance at the sanctum sanctorum. To meet any exigency, special make-shift ISM and Allopathic dispensaries were set-up. Every incoming devotee was thoroughly frisked by the security personnel before entry to the temple gate. A number of fruit and flower stalls were also put up there for the devotees. As per the tradition, people in Jammu as elsewhere in the country also arranged special prayers within their homes and visited temples in to mark the beginning of the Navratras. The authorities had made elaborate arrangements for the darshan of yatris. Heavy rush of devotees was also seen at Maha Maya temple in Bhawe as hundreds of devotees drawn from different parts of Jammu thronged the temple since early in the morning. The special matadors were pressed into service on the Bahu Fort route to tackle the heavy rush of pilgrims. Keeping in view of militant attacks authorities have tightened the security of the area. The rush of pilgrims which started early in the morning continued upto late in the night, the reports said. All the city temples were given a fascinating look and special prayers were held in the morning. Besides, offering prayers in the temples, people also arranged ‘Jagratas’ at their homes and other localities to celebrate the Navratras with religious fervor and gaiety. |
