Ace of Spades Rajouri organises Marathon

RAJOURI, Apr 11: Continuing with the best & unique traditions of the Indian Army and to commemorate the sacrifices of martyrs who laid down their lives for the liberation of Rajouri, a Marathon was today organised by 'Ace of Spades' Division at Army Goodwill Public School, as a run-up to Rajouri Day on April 13, 2021.
Taking COVID restrictions into consideration, only a limited gathering of fewer than 200 civilians and defence persons were permitted, although the applications for the event were heavily oversubscribed. The event was conducted under three categories. Category I & II being 5 & 10 km run for civilians and Category III of 10 km run for defence personnel.
The Marathon was flagged off by Reema Puri, Regional President, AWWA, much to the cheer of all the runners.
Medals were awarded to all participants. Cash prizes were also awarded for participants securing 1st, 2nd & 3rd position in each category. Raj Kumar Saini & Nb Sub Sukh Singh stood first in category II & III in the age group 45-60 yrs respectively. Master Subham won the prize in the youngest category. Guddi Devi won the heart of everyone with her enthusiasm whereas Master Shahad who is just 12 yrs of age completed 10 Km Marathon. Shamshad Akhtar, a young girl, too mesmerized everyone with her zeal & vigour.
The event was aimed at raising awareness about the necessity of staying mentally and physically fit as also bringing together the armed forces and the civil population.
