| Jammuties get raw deal in selection to professional institutions: JSM | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 1: While commenting on the results of CET(Common Entrance Test) conducted by the J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examination, Jammu State Morcha (P) has reiterated its demand for implementation of 1998 Singhal Committee Report. The committee which was appointed by the J&K government after a month long intensive agitation launched under the leadership of Jammu Bar Association and student organizations had recommended that the selection list of Jammu as well as Kashmir province be prepared separately. All admissions to the professional colleges (government as well as private) should be made by the respective universities in accordance with their admission rules and acts. The seats in the Jammu colleges should be allocated to candidates from the Jammu division and those in Kashmir colleges from the Kashmir division by their respective Universities. Seats for Ladakh region should be reserved separately in both the universities. Capt. Anil Gour (Retd) Vice President and Spokesman, Digvijay Singh, Secretary. General, Devinder Singh Jamwal, General Secretary and Surinder Sharma, Youth President and Mahesh Sharma, in a joint statement have condemned the blatant discriminatory admissions list for professional colleges issued by J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examination. These leaders alleged that in the open merit category the share of the Jammu region is only 26.4%, and 32% after including all reserved categories in MBBS stream and 39% in BDS and 22% in BV Sc streams. JSM (P) leaders demanded immediate scrapping of the selection list and an enquiry into the selection process as they apprehend some foul play in the selection of students in MBBS, BDS, BVSc courses where candidates from Jammu region have not been given a fair deal. The Morcha said the practice of province wise admission is being followed in both the Jammu as well as Kashmir Universities in the matter of admissions to all Polytechnic Institutions in the state. Prior to 1996, the candidates for MBBS, BDS and BVSc courses were selected on 50:50 ratio between Jammu region and the Kashmir valley. However, the share of Jammu region constantly declined after the National Conference came in power in 1996.By implementing the Singhal Committee report, government would give rest to the misgivings prevailing among the candidates and people of both the regions about the fairness of examinations and alleged discriminatory treatment against one region or the other for ever, these leaders observed. |
