| NCP to field people-friendly candidates | | Delimitation must before polls: Randhir | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 1: Demanding delimitation of assembly constituencies before holding elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Nationalist Congress Party has urged the state Governor N N Vohra to issue an ordinance to this effect so that Jammu region gets its due share as per the population and other parameters. Addressing workers convention at Katra today, the party president Thakur Randhir Singh said that ‘holding of elections in Jammu and Kashmir without delimitation would mean perpetuating the domination of Kashmir centric political parties and leaders over Jammu, who he, added were responsible for growing discrimination with the region. Singh also criticized all those politicians who supported the constitutional amendment putting a blanket ban on increasing assembly seats up to 2006. Demanding political reservation for Gujjars, Bakerwals and other STs, Randhir Singh said that NCP would field educated, young, honest, talented, professional and pro-people candidates in the ensuing assembly elections and adding that the party would have no truck with communal, anti-Jammu and opportunist parties in the polls. Several resolutions were passed at the convention urging for strengthening Right to Information Act, implementation of Panchayati Raj Act. Singh demanded a high level commission to inquire into the moveable and immoveable properties of all the state chief ministers, ministers, MP’s and other political leaders and said that this is must to restore faith of people in the political system and credibility of the politicians. A party handout claimed that hundreds of prominent leaders of different political parties joined the NCP on the occasion. |
