| Police set squad in motion | | Eye on eve teasers | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 4: To firmly deal with the eve teasers, drug peddlers and notorious characters, the police has constituted two special squads.
SSP Jammu Manohar Singh said today that in view of large number of complaints from parents, teachers and girls regarding eve teasing and other crimes a Special Team has been constituted to deal with such crimes effectively. The team will be headed by Inspector Rajni Sharma with adequate number of other members.
He said as the number of complaints in such cases is increasing day by day and the newly constituted team will identify all such places where such practices are more prevalent and will put adequate number of lady Police Personnel even in civvies to take cognizance. Some of such places already stand identified. Even near Colleges and Higher Secondary Schools, lady Police personnel will be put in civvies/ school/college uniform so that eve teasers are properly identified and brought to book, the SSP said. Moreover, in public transport, parking places and Bazaars the same practice shall continue to curb the menace of such social evils. The people of Jammu District are requested to inform Police on mobile number 9419135501 or land line numbers 2547807, 2561578 immediately regarding eve teasers and other such crime, so that this evil is eradicated from the society and the female members of society feel secure every where, he added.
The SSP further said that an anti-gunda squad has also been constituted to effectively deal with anti social elements, notorious character, drug peddlers and other such people who indulge in social crime. The special team headed by Inspector Vishal Sharma shall work under his supervision. The team so constituted will identify all such persons and places where anti social elements are active or anti social crime and illegal sale of drugs are taking place, so that such elements are dealt with under law. It has been observed that there is scare of “Gunda” elements in the society as a result; their activities are not reported to police department. People through media are requested to inform regarding such elements and drug peddlers and their activities to said team on Mobile No. 9419191000 or Police Stations or Police Posts so that not only sense of security is provided to every peace loving citizens of the district but also menace of drug addiction is curbed, the SSP said.
He said the identity of all those persons providing information regarding eve teasers and anti social elements /criminals will be kept as top secret. SSP Jammu requests general public to join hands with Jammu Police to get rid of these evils and make Jammu District a crime free place to live where every female and every peace loving citizen is safe and secure. |
