PHE suffers loss of Rs 250 lakh in Doda
Dr Romesh reviews loss due to rains, flash floods

Doda, Sep 11: The heavy rains and flash floods have caused severe damage worth more than Rs 250 lakh to the Public Health and Engineer Sector in district Doda. This was revealed in a review meeting convened by the Minister of State for PHE, flood control and Irrigation Dr Romesh Lal, here.
Dr Romesh Lal, MoS held a detailed meeting with the officials of PHE, irrigation and flood control and took stock of the situation arising out of the recent rains and flash floods in the district. The minister discussed the damage caused to the water schemes in all the tehsils of the district and asked the concerned officials to make alternate arrangements for the supply of drinking water so that the people may not suffer.
The minister was informed that the department has suffered the loss of Rs 250.74 lakh in PHE division Doda, Kishtwar and SSD Gandoh. Superintending Engineer Hydraulic Circle Doda VK Malhotra told the minister that PHE Division Doda has suffered the estimated loss of Rs 138.95 lakh while in Kishtwar it is Rs 77.79 lakh. Similarly, SSD Gandoh has also suffered the loss of Rs 34 lakh due to the heavy rains and flash floods.
He was informed that as per the assessment done by the concerned officials Rs 132.37 lakh were immediately required for temporary restoration of the water supply, while an amount of Rs 158.37 lakh were required for permanent restoration.
The minister was also informed that Irrigation and FC sector has also suffered the estimated loss of Rs 277.18 lakh in the district and an amount of Rs 48.43 lakh were immediately required for temporary restoration works.
The minister also took stock of the alternate arrangements being made at the tehsil levels for the supply of drinking water to the people. He emphasized the need of close coordination between the officials at various levels so that the restoration work can be taken up with top priority.
The minister, who is also holding the charge of MoS Industries and Commerce later, reviewed the work of District Industries Center. He was informed that the center has registered 927 SSI units out of which 537 were functional, while another 340 units were declared sick units.
The minister was further informed that the center, during the current year, has registered 110 units, while 81 cases have been sanctioned under Prime Minster’s Rozgar Yogna (PMRY).
An amount of Rs 3 lakh on interest subsidy under PMRY scheme has also been disbursed during the year 2006-07 among entrepreneurs.
