| Another intrusion bid foiled | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 4: The Army has foiled an infiltration bid by armed militants, who tried to intrude under the cover of firing from Pakistan side along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, making it the fourth such incident this week, police said. Meanwhile security has been upped in Jammu in view of threat perception of militant attack due the ensuing festive season of Navratras and forthcoming Diwali. Armed militants from across the border tried to intrude into Jammu and Kashmir under the cover of firing from Pak Rangers last night, making it another incident of cease-fire violation. A group of militants entered into Indian territory along the LoC in Sabra Gali area of Mendhar sector, he said. As Army troops challenged them and opened fire, militants escaped back to Pakistan. However, there was no loss of life or damage to property on Indian side. The BSF along international border (IB) had foiled three infiltration bid supported by Pakistan troops on September 27, October 1 and October 2 in Jammu sector, in which one militant was killed. Meanwhile, following fresh intelligence reports of militant strike during the festive season at crowded market places, the Jammu police are not taking any chance and is regularly carrying out frisking and random checking of vehicles at various nakas in and around the city to catch the militants. In the old city area, police is keeping an eagle’s eye on the movement of suspected people. Jammu police also carried out a comprehensive drill at Jammu bus stand on Thursday following reports of presence of militants in the area. According to SSP, Manohar Singh, credible intelligence inputs intercepted by security forces in the recent days indicate militants are planning to target Jammu and its adjoining areas to create panic. He said police is on high alert and is regularly carrying out raids and keeping a tight vigil on the movement of suspected people and checking in private hotels and lodges in and around crowded market places. Foiling infiltration bids from across the border in the recent days does expose game plan of militant groups, a senior officer of the state Intelligence wing said in Jammu. |
