Peerzada emphasizes separate monitoring cell in education department
‘We should strive to end illiteracy in the state under TLP’

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 11 – To bring education standard at par with the national level, Minister for Education Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed has asked for strengthening the monitoring system in the education department for which he desired to frame a separate full-fledged monitoring cell for the purpose. He said it should be four tire monitoring system, which comprises of Zonal Education Officer, Chief Education Officer, Director and Secretary Education. He said that he personally would review the working of department on monthly basis.
He was chairing a high level meeting convened to review the working of department here today. The participants are Secretary Education, Mr. Khazair Mohammad Wani, Director Sarva Shiksha Abiyan Mr. Farooq Ahmad Pir, Director Education, Kashmir Mr. Mohammad Rafi, Director Librariaries, Syed Fazullahla, Principals of DIET, Chief Education Officers of all districts of Kashmir province and other senior officers of the department.
Saying that by launching Sarva Shiksha Abiyan, the imparting or elementary education in the state has increased manifold, Peerzada stressed upon the officers that time has come to institutionalize the monitoring system in letter and spirit on the ground to realize the best results of the scheme with expectations of people. He said that public opinion is also in favour and “it is our moral duty to take advantage of this atmosphere”.
Peerzada said that there is no problem with regard to funds in this sector, but there is dire need of proper utilization of funds. He asked the officers to prioritize the construction work only the institutions who have dire need of accommodation to be taken first. He said that time has come, “we have to act on consolidation not on expansion”.
He directed the Secretary Education to depute a officer who will follow the state government cases in Government of India regarding the release of funds under various centrally sponsored schemes.
Peerzada directed the officers to ensure that all the construction work should be completed within time bound so that works taken by the agency should not be left midway due to escalation of cost. He said to pass on the directions to construction agency also on the very first day that the work should be completed within the prescribed time frame.
Regarding the re-construction of educational infrastructural base in earthquake hit areas of Uri, Karnah, Peerzada directed the authorities to start the work as per the resources available in the department till the reconstruction package would be approved by Government of India so that the students do not suffer. He said that steps have taken to reconstruct and repair all the educational institutions, who have collapsed and damaged in earthquake.
