Trade expo may showcase Jammu potential
PoK traders reaching Jammu on Oct 12; Vohra visits LoC terminal

JAMMU, Oct 4: With preparations for launch of cross-LoC trade already in full swing, the delegation of Pakistan administered Kashmir traders is arriving in Jammu on October 12 on a three day visit to hold discussions with their counterparts.
There delegation, reaching Srinagar on October 9, will be in Jammu for three days to understand trade potential of region and finalise modalities with local traders. The Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry along with some other trade and industry bodies is likely to put up an exhibition of local products to give the visiting delegation an idea produce and commodities.
Earlier today the Governor, Mr N N Vohra, visited Salamabad in Uri this morning and reviewed the ongoing work for the establishment of the Trade Facilitation Centre, coming up on war footing basis for meeting the dead-line of 21st October, the date set for cross LoC trade with Pak occupied Kashmir.
The Governor reviewed the preparedness and arrangements for launching an important event and called upon the executing agencies to complete the remaining work on a time-bound basis. He has been personally monitoring the arrangements being made for cross LoC Trade via the Chakan-da-Bagh and Salamabad routes.
Vohra was informed about the quantum of work already completed at Salamabad under the Phase-I programme and about the preliminary work on Phase II which has been started on 50 kanals of land, where a full-fledged Trade Complex along with a modern Truck Terminal will come up in due course.
To start with, the required infrastructure, which includes a Ware House, Office Block for Customs, Rummaging Ramps, temporary Truck Terminal and a Waiting Hall have been erected.
The Governor also instructed the road-upgradation work from Salamabad to Kaman Post and directed that the remaining work particularly black topping of the road, must be completed well before the commencement of the trade.
Vohra was accompanied by his Principal Secretary Mr B B Vyas, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Mr Masud Samoon and Commissioner Secretary, Industries, Dr Pawan Kotwal, who is the Nodal Officer for the cross -LoC trade.
District Development Commissioner, Baramulla, Mr Baseer Khan apprised the Governor about the infrastructural facilities and other logistics available at the Trade Facilitation Centre.
Accompanied by senior Army officers, the Governor also visited the Kaman Post and was given a detailed briefing about the arrangements and services which were being provided for the passengers traveling to Muzaffarabad, now on weekly basis. It may be recalled that Mr Vohra had also visited Chakkan-da-Bagh and Zero Point in Poonch on September 28.
On September 6 and 7, a high level Central team had visited both the Trade Facilitation Centres at Salamabad in Uri and Chakkan-da-Bagh in Poonch to review the arrangements. They had briefed the Governor about the infrastructural facilities coming up at the two places.
Meanwhile, the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Sudhanshu Pandey convened a meeting with Chamber of Commerce to discuss arrangements and programmes in connection with the 3-day visit of PoK traders delegation here at Jammu today.
It was informed in the meeting that a delegation of Pakistan occupied Kashmir traders would be reaching here on 12th of October on a three day visit. During the visit, the PoK delegation will discuss business opportunities with Chamber of Commerce and various industrialist of Jammu and seek knowledge about the products being manufactured in Jammu province for mutual trade.
The meeting was attended by Director Industries, Mr. Pardeep Gupta, Managing Director, SIDCO, Mr. H. S. Dua, President Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jammu Mr. Ram Sahai, Secretary General, Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Rajinder Motiyal, Senior Vice President, Mr. Om Parkash and other senior members of Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Detailed deliberations were held about modalities of cross border trade, venue of programmes organized for the visitors and other schedule of the delegation during their three day visit.
Speaking in the meeting, Mr. Pandey said that Chamber of Commerce has to look at it as a unique and rare opportunity for giving boost to economic activities in the region and should try their best to display their industrial capability to the maximum. He also asked the Chamber to organize a large scale display at a suitable place and keep their best products there for observation of the delegates so that it leaves a lasting impression upon the visitors.
