Praja Prishad may merge in BJP
10/6/2008 12:38:35 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 5: The BJP high command has suggested to the state party unit to hammer out reconciliation with Praja Parishad so that the organization, formed by Chander Mohan Sharma, rejoins the BJP in the interest of the organization.
Informed sources said that senior BJP leaders in Delhi had discussions with Chander Mohan, who has agreed to consider the offer for rejoining the BJP. Accordingly the party high command sent a message to the leadership of the state unit of the BJP with instructions that a stage be set for the re-induction of Sharma in the BJP. Sharma, who was vice president of the BJP, had been expelled from the party four years ago on charge of anti-party activities by lending help to the candidates fielded by the State Morcha in 2002 election which charge Sharma had denied.
After Chander Mohan Sharma played a vital role in strengthening the Sangarsh Samiti the BJP leadership had realized the need for having the support of Sharma so that the BJP could have added mileage in the ensuing Assembly election. Supporters of Chander Mohan Sharma said that a year ago senior BJP leaders, including Arun Jaitley, had mooted the idea of bringing all the estranged political leaders back to the BJP but senior functionaries of the state unit of the party had sabotaged it.
Now that the elections were round the corner the BJP leadership at the centre does not want to miss any opportunity in cashing on the land row sentiments. Indications are that the state BJP leadership is divided on the issue of patching up with Chander Mohan Sharma. Several leaders, including Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, are in favour of rapprochement with Praja Parishad but two top leaders were said to be opposed to it. The Party high command has decided to send fresh instructions to Ashok Khajuria, Party President, to readmit Chander Mohan Sharma in the party.
