| Sonali lauds farming community for bringing laurels to state | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 5: Principal, Secretary to Government Agriculture and Floriculture Department Sonali Kumar has lauded the farming community of the state for bringing laurels to the state by winning the position in the annual flow show exhibition held at New Delhi recently. She was speaking at a function organized by Directorate of Floriculture Jammu at village Kattal Battal Nagrota Jammu where farmers were provided planting material under the technology mission. Director Floriculture, K K Sharma, President J&K Flower Growers Association, Tejinder Singh, senior officers of Floriculture Department, progressive farmers and large number of local people were present on the occasion. Interacting with the farmers, Sonali said that this year for the first time J&K state’s Floriculture stall was adjudged best for first prize in the Flora Expo-2008 Exhibition held at New Delhi in which 19 states took part. She said that 25 progressive farmers were also sent to participate in this exhibition to learn about new scientific technologies in the field of Floriculture. She said that Jammu province has vast potential for growing various kinds of flowers and asked the farmers to come forward and take full advantage of the Nature’s gift as it will raise their socio-economical standards, she added. She also assured the farmers of all possible technical and financial assistance in this field. The Department of Floriculture and J&K Flower Growers Association have jointly adopted Kattal Battal village for flower farming under National Horticulture Technology Mission this year and imparted training to the farmers and distributed free plants for flower farming in their respective field. The farmers of the village for the first time cultivated Mari-Gold flower on experimental basis in June this year which has yielded good results and further encouraged the farmers to go for Mari-Gold cultivation in a big way. |
