EARLY TIMES REPORT
UDHAMPUR, Oct 5: One of the most sought after event of the Navratra Festival – the humorous stage show- organized on the fifth night of the nine day long festival stole the show. Sixteen participants from across Jammu and Kashmir displaying their talent on the first day forced the people to burst into bumps of laughter.
President of the Katra Municipal Committee Mulkh Raj Purohit inaugurated the show by lighting the traditional lamp.
The show captioned as ‘Hassya Vayang Goshti’ has gained prominence as an eventful fiesta to be hosted in the spiritual ambience of revered Durga Bhavan with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and State Tourism Department being the major contributors.
The wide spectrum of popularity the show commands could well be gauged from the fact that despite initial screening of the participants, the show has to be carried for four nights to be culminated on October 7, with a melodic poetry recitation on the most difficult subject of the modern day stressful life i.e. Humour, and that too in its refined form without any dictum of vulgarity in it.
The strict compliance laid for participants in expressing their thoughts in most refined and decent manner is another reason that the people of all ages and class are thronging in large numbers at the holy Katra town to witness the gala event alongwith their families.
President Hassya Vayang Manch, Gopal Padha apprised that the show is fourth in the series that was started in 2005, and has as of today become a lighting pad for the stage artists to be of the silver screen. He said that the best performers would be awarded cash prize of Rs 25000, Rs. 10000 and Rs 5000 respectively besides a citation.
