‘Pay each refugee family Rs 50 lakhs’
10/6/2008 12:44:15 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 5: Convenor, State Forum for Justice and Human Rights Dr. Kulwant Singh strongly supporting the demands of the refugees has expressed deep concern over the apathetic attitude of the central and state governments to the problems of POK Refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971 and the West Pakistan Refugees since 1947 awaiting their final settlement and compensation for the loss of life and properties they suffered. He said most painful part is the false promises extended to them from time to time and now throwing their cases to the dustbin.
As per press release more than 50, 000 innocent persons of minority community were ruthlessly killed by the raiders (Qabailies) in 1947 and not a single hosue of minority community was left over the POK as against four lakh persons of minority community living their before 1947. He said Pakistan is in illegal occupation of one third fo J&K state with an area of nearly 70, 000 sq. kilometer of POK and much bigger northern area of Gilgit, Askardu etc. Opening of trade route with Muzaffrabad, on 21st October 2008, is the grim Reminder of this day as the blackist day in the history of J&K when on 21st October, 1947 night, the raiders had massively plundered Muzaffrabad he said and added not only minority community was wiped off, patriotic local Muslims and Christians were also not spared. Whereas Dr. Singh supports all confidence building measures between the people on both sides but deplores the attitude of the central government by ignoring the essential features of the basic dispute and denying compensation to refugees for the last 61 years.
Singh has demanded Rupees Fifty Lakhs for each uprooted family as an adhoc compensation by the government as it may be difficult to build up the record of their losses after lapse of many years.
