| Seminar on ‘Total Quality Management’ | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 6: The Postgraduate Department of Management Studies at Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET), the first ISO 9001:2000 certified engineering institution in the State, today organized a seminar on “Total Quality Management” for its faculty and students. M.K Gupta, Chief Consultant, Motley Consultancy Service, Jammu who was the chief resource person apprised the audience about the importance of quality focus for any organization and how to make quality quantifiable by identifying Key Result Areas (KRAs). He specifically covered the “Process Approach to Quality” as espoused by the ISO 9001:2000 system and the more advanced ISO 14000 certification. Earlier, Brig (Retd) Prof. P.N Sharma, Head, Department of Management Studies, welcoming Gupta expressed his gratitude for agreeing to deliver a lecture on the important area of “Quality Management”. He cited the examples of global corporate giants like Toyota and GE, whose unwavering focus on following the highest quality standards like six-sigma has allowed them to emerge as industry-leaders. He described quality management as “All-Pervasive and All-Encompassing” from ensuring zero defects in manufacturing to measuring customer satisfaction, to enhancing overall customer experience, to ensure on time delivery, to deliver great services and to retaining customers and growing the business. He therefore felt that exposure to quality management is a given for all future managers. The seminar was well received by the students who raised interesting counter views and a lively interaction followed the seminar. |
