| Jammu wins inter-district TT title | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 6: Beating district Poonch, Jammu district girls won the under-19 year table tennis title in the annual inter-district (provincial) Table Tennis (school) Tournament organized by Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at Indoor Complex, M A Stadium, here today. However, in boys under-19 year category, district Poonch team has made it into the final beating their counterparts from Kathua 3-0. Now, in the final, to be played tomorrow, Poonch boys shall take on Jammu. Earlier, in girls section, only two teams turned up for the competition resulting into Jammu emerged winner outplaying Poonch 3-1. The results: Jammu bt Poonch 3-1. Singles: Saba bt Runeet Kour 11-8, 5-11, 12-10; Nitani bt Komal Tandon 11-5, 11-1. Mehreen Choudhary of Poonch bt Bhuvneshwari of Jammu 11-5, 10-12, 11-6. Reverse singles: Nitani bt Gurneet 11-1, 12-14, 11-5. In boys section, three teams were there to compete for the top honours. In the semifinal played today, Poonch defeated Kathua 3-0. The results: Poonch bt Kathua 3-0: Singles: Abhinav bt Sanjay 11-0, 11-6; Gurvinder bt Amit 11-1, 11-6. Doubles: Gurvinder and Parminder bt Sanjay and Amit 11-2, 11-8. BADMINTON: Shuttlers from Jammu district today made into the final of inter-district (provincial) under-19 badminton tournament underway at Indoor Complex, M A Stadium, here. In the semi-final, played today, Jammu defeated Udhampur 2-0 to set the stage for an interesting final tomorrow. Waiting for the results, Jammu boys shall take on the winner of second semi-final scheduled for tomorrow between Kathua and Samba districts. Winners Jammu district team was comprised of Rohit Verma, Abhishek and Anuj Gupta. In all, four teams turned up for the badminton tournament. Meanwhile, the competitions in Judo and Gymnastics shall take place tomorrow a 9.30 am. In under-19 boys football, the organizers straightway conducted selection trials at Play Field Shastri Nagar under the guidance of ZPEO, R C Vaid. The department has already conducted the boys under-19 group competition. |
