| Chairman PCB reviews performance of NGC scheme | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 7: To review the performance of National Green Corps (NGC) scheme launched in Jammu since 2001, Chairman State PCB Dr C M Seth today convened a meeting of Director School Education, all Chief Education Officers of various districts, District Pollution Control Board Officers and Resource Agency World Wide Fund for Nature at Paryavaran Bhawan here. During the meeting, Dr Seth informed that NGC scheme was launched by Union Ministry of Environment and Forests, in the year 2001 and under this scheme, initially one hundred Eco-Clubs were setup in each district of state. The number was increased to 150 Eco-Clubs in 2004 and now the target has been fixed 250 Eco-Clubs in each district of state. He said that more than fifteen master trainers and teacher trainer training workshops have been completed in this regard. He said that NGC program is a national mission to educate the school students about environment and nature through a non formal mode of education and to build a green cadre with sufficient skills and knowledge to protect the environment and care for nature. He informed that the PCB will be organizing two state level master trainer and one district level teacher trainer training program in Jammu division. District Education Officer Jammu and all CEOs of districts assured full cooperation to the Nodal and Resource Agency in making this project a great success. Director Education, Zahida Khan, called for organizing frequent meetings between PCB Officers and Education Officers at district level for better coordination and transparency in the implementation of the scheme and assured full support and cooperation to the Pollution Control Board. Member, Secretary, S P Arya highlighted the activities of the PCB and informed that all the registered Eco-Club Schools shall be provided financial grant in aid by the Government of India. |
