| Green campus: Mattoo launches plantation | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 7: Professor Amitabh Matoo , Vice Chancellor University of Jammu today launched plantation drive in University Campus by planting a sapling in the University Cafeteria. The plantation drive function was organized by Jammu University Research Scholars Executive Association (JURSEA) Speaking on the occasion, Professor Mattoo appreciated the initiative of JURSEA to launch plantation drive in the University complex and made a call to the people to respect trees and plants in the manner temples and Gods are revered, He expressed his concern over the increasing social and psychological pollution along with environmental pollution and felt the need that every one should come forward to check these malaises adding that this onerous responsibility begins first with parents and teachers of the society. "Conservation of tress and plants had always been a part of our religion; cultural tradition but in our times people have not only forgotten these values but there is lack of ever common minimum sensibilities. Gradually diminishing concern for issues of social and environmental importance, particularly among younger generation, is a serious issue and there is a need for devising strategies for attracting youth towards these issues," Professor Mattoo said. In his welcome address, JURSEA President, Vikas Sharma thanked the Vice Chancellor for launching the plantation drive in the campus. He said that it is the need of the time that student fraternity should come forward and participate in plantation drive to protest our environment. Prof. Desh Bandhu, Prof. Lokesh Verma, Dr PS Pathania, Prof. Archana Kaise, Prof. Jasbir, Gansham Sharma, Auradha Goswami (Chairperson JURSEA), Munish Gandotra, Kamal Deep Singh and Kuldeep were among other present on the occasion. |
