Inter-district indoor competitions concludes
10/7/2008 11:30:33 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 7: Shuttlers from Jammu district clinched the under-19 badminton title beating district Samba in the final today in the two-day inter-district divisional level indoor competitions organized by Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at Indoor Complex, M A Stadium, here today.
However, Jammu boys lost in table tennis when they were beaten by their counterparts from district Poonch in the final. In badminton final, Jammu defeated Samba 2-1, but later lost to Poonch in the table tennis 1-3.
The response was not good enough in two other events of Judo and Gymnastics. While in Judo a number of weights were decided without any contest, the Gymnastics competitions could not take place, the reason being only Jammu district team turned-up for event. Only two teams were there in Judo competitions.
In these two-day indoor competitions in the disciplines of table tennis, badminton, gymnastics and judo, about 100 student players participated in the events representing different districts of Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Udhampur and Poonch.
Deputy Director, DYSS, Madan Lal was chief guest in the finals, who later gave away winners and runners up trophies in different disciplines. Assistant Director DYSS, Ashok Kumar presided over the concluding function.
